I'll look into it, I'm sure I could find room for him.

My main task at the moment is doing the topdowns for the cars. Here's my Brabham (not currently in GPM2 pallette):
Image

Which I don't think is too bad, I based it on this image:

And considering how different the cars were, I think it's a decent representation which will let the sponsor icons line up etc. So far I've done McLaren, Lotus, Ferrari, Williams, Brabham, Ligier, Renault and Arrows, which are all nice and more or less the same shape. And then you have Tyrrell, which was this shape:

WTF Tyrrell? What were you on when you designed that?

Ligier were on the same stuff back in 1983:

As for that Brabham topdown, it looks quite good color-wise (better than anything that I could draw  ). Maybe if you moved the tyres a bit further from the car (by extending the axels), and add the red stripes on the edges of the blue colour found on the sides of the car, and tidy up those edges between two colours a bit, it'd look perfect to me! :)

The main problem is that there's not enough room to move tires into on the right side, and if I try to move the car then it will make the sponsors badly positioned.

With Tyrrell I was thinking of using the basic car shape and just colouring it Tyrrell colours, otherwise they'd have to have floating sponsors on the sidepod, the problem is that their Elf sponsorship meant they were the exact same colours as Ligier, minus a white stripe or two. Oh Tyrrell!

Just a little update:

Car top-downs - all drawn, need palette applying.
Driver pictures - all got, need palette applying
Tracks - only just started

And just to show something, here's my first ever track so far: Jacarepagua, Brazil, round one of the 1985 Formula One Season!
Image

To do:

Finish Jacarepagua
Draw and edit the following tracks: Detroit, Paul Ricard, Osterreichring, Zandvoort, Brands Hatch
Draw car side-views
Edit driver stats
Draw car matchboxes
Get in-game background pictures
Get engine logos
Edit engines
Edit rules for 1985
Edit driver pictures
Get news pictures
Everything else!

So it is getting done and I'm making good progress, but like everyone else, I also have my real life to get on with, so I don't expect to be ready to release this until Summer at the earliest!

Nice job with Jacarepagua! May I use it in my 1989 Mod as well, when it's finished? :)

I can exchange that with Mediocre's Paul Ricard track

Of course! I'll make all the tracks etc. available for others to use once they're done.

I said that I'd maybe have a shot of Detroit at the weekend - well, the weekend came and I noticed that I'd missed an entire corner off Detroit. :x And the pitlane. :x So I didn't have much choice but to start all over again. Luckily I'm much more pleased with how this one is going: the only thing is that as Detroit is a street circuit there is a LOT of eye candy to do in the way of individual buildings etc. Pretty much everything south of the circuit is the Detroit River, so that's all done. Anyway, here it is so far:

Just to show that things are progressing!

Driver data nearly completed, currently ploughing through the driver pictures. Jacarepagua is drawn, Detroit is getting there.

Could anyone (I'm particularly looking at you, Nuppiz!) tell me if they know anywhere I might find accurate information about engines (weight and horseopwer) for the 1985 season.

http://www.statsf1.com/en/moteurs.aspx

Although I wouldn't suggest that you copy the information straight from there, as engine power has a lot bigger effect in GPM2 than in real life. For example, the Honda RA168E (McLaren's 1988 engine) supposedly only had 650 horsepower, yet it won every except one race of the season. In comparison, the Ferrari Tipo 033E of the same year supposedly had 720 HP, 70 HP more than the Honda, which is by GPM2 standards a massive difference. If you'd make a mod with these characteristics, Ferrari would be miles ahead of anyone and others, including McLaren, would struggle to even make it beoynd qualifying.

So the best way to make well-balanced engines is to give the best team's engine the best characteristics, then gradually lower the stats when going down the grid. In the case of your mod, turbo engines should be more powerful and lighter, but much less reliable (quality), while the normally-aspirated ones should be vice versa. The best teams could have about 740 HP while the worst ones could have 650 HP or so without destroying game balance.

If we'd go purely with StatsF1 here, the Ford Cosworth DFY engine would have 510 HP and weigh in at 150 kg. On the other hand, we'd have the Renault EF15 with 810 HP and around 120 kg of weight. By GPM2 terms, that could mean about 20 seconds per lap on track in difference. Now, Tyrrell didn't perform that bad at the start of the 1985 season, despite running with an essentially 1983-spec car.
